DePuy Pinnacle Hip Replacement Complications

We are investigating cases throughout the United States of victims who suffered complications from the Depuy Pinnacle hip replacement system, which is a metal on metal hip implant similar to the Depuy ASR hip replacement system. The complaints we are seeing include early failure, severe pain, loosening of the implant and other complaints

Unfortunately, some of these complaints will lead to the need for a hip revision surgery.

Our Depuy hip replacement team is currently reviewing potential Pinnacle hip claims for patients who experience problems with the Pinnacle hip system. We believe there may be design defects with this hip implant.

The problem may be that the Depuy Pinnacle hip replacement system is a metal-on-metal hip implant, which, because the hip implant is similar to earlier generation DePuy hip replacement devices which had already been approved by the FDA, did not have to be completely scrutinized prior to its approval compared to the same rigorous pre-market approval testing used for other medical devices.

There have been hundreds of Depuy Pinnacle hip problem reports filed with the FDA adverse event reporting system.

Many in the industry including orthopedic surgeons have voiced their concerns about the design of the metal-on-metal hip replacement systems.

They are also concerned that these metal on metal systems can allow small metal particles into the surrounding tissue and body over time resulting in the condition known as "Metallosis".

This is similar to the Depuy ASR hip implant, which was subject to a worldwide recall in August, 2010. It is interesting to note that the ASR recall occurred more than 18 months after the first Depuy ASR lawsuit was filed concerning design defects.

If you or a loved one has experienced problems from the Depuy Pinnacle hip system, please contact one of our intake specialists who are part of our Depuy national hip replacement group which includes orthopedic surgeons, nurses, lawyers, paralegals, and experts as well as metallurgists.  We want to help you as well.

The status of the Pinnacle hip litigation is that there has been a request to centralize all Depuy Pinnacle hip lawsuit filings in one federal court (called multi-district litigation) to consolidate and centralize in one court all pre-trial proceedings including discovery and all coordinations. This may occur in either the pending Depuy ASR multi-district litigation site or a new multi-district litigation unit.

There have been more than 150,000 Depuy Pinnacle systems manufactured since its approval date and there have been more than 1300 people who have filed adverse event reports with the FDA involving Pinnacle problems since the August 2010 DePuy ASR Hip recall date.

On February 15, 2011, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released several public health service bulletins concerning hip implant systems which were metal-on-metal component systems. The purpose of these public releases is to alert the public to the severe FDA concerns of side effects from metal-on-metal hip systems. The side effects include joint dislocation, swelling, numbness, medical particles causing a reaction around the joint leading to the deterioration of tissue, loosening of the implant, failure of the implant and revision surgery.

This public report comes approximately six months after DePuy Orthopedics, the orthopedic division of Johnson & Johnson, issued its worldwide recall on the ASR DePuy Hip Replacement devices.

Anyone who has received a hip replacement in the United States after July 2003 may have received a DePuy ASR device. We invite you to read below the full text of the FDA comments concerning the metal hip implant systems their concerns and public warnings.

If you or a loved one suffered injury from the ASR hip replacement system, please either fill out the free, confidential email inquiry on the right or call immediately to speak to a DePuy hip implant recall lawyer at 1-800-718-4658. We are investigating complications associated with the Depuy Pinnacle Total Hip System. This hip implant has not been recalled. However, many patients have reported complaints of failure, pain and metal poisoning called Metallosis.

The FDA (Federal Drug Administration) has received hundreds of adverse reports from hip implant patients who have experienced side effects with the Depuy Pinnacle Acetabular Cup System, including enhanced hip pain, hip failure, need for hip revision surgery, and the poisoning condition known as Metallosis. We believe the Depuy Pinnacle Hip which is a metal-on-metal implant has a flawed design. We are actively investigating Depuy Pinnacle Hip victim claims nationwide. Please call us at 1-800-718-4658 or complete our free case evaluation form on the right and one of our hip implant specialists will immediately contact you and will evaluate your claim at no cost to you to determine whether or not you are eligible for a Depuy Pinnacle manufacturer law suit.

The problems we have seen with the Depuy Pinnacle system include unexplained pain, implant failure, difficulty walking, balance, problems with stability and/or standing, loosening up Pinnacle Hip Replacement, need for revision surgery, and Metallosis or metal poisoning.

In August 2010 Depuy has previously recalled its Depuy ASR XL Acetabular and ASR Hip Resurfacing Systems. The Pinnacle is a similar system to the ASR and ASR Hip in that they are metal-on-metal hip replacements. One of the problems with these types of hips is that they release microscopic particles into the patient’s body causing Metallosis. As a result of the Metallosis, the patient can have severe inflammatory reactions due to the release of cobalt and chromium particles into their system’s.

If you or a loved one had the Pinnacle Hip System implanted in them and suffered any of the above problems, please contact one of our Pinnacle experts immediately. We have amassed the highest qualified Depuy Pinnacle litigation team in the country, including scientists, expert witnesses, doctors, lawyers and paralegals to investigate and take care of our Pinnacle Depuy victims. Please either call one of our Depuy Pinnacle case intake specialists at 1-800-718-4658 or please complete the confidential  inquiry on the right. We will respond to your email within 24 hours.
