Levaquin

Tendon Rupture and Liver Failure

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has notified the manufacturers of Levaquin that a Black Box warning on the product is now required. This labeling requirement is to notify all users of the increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture by the use of Levaquin.

This procedure, called the issuance of a Black Box warning on a product, is to warn patients of the danger of Tendonitis and Tendon Rupture from the use of Levaquin product - a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

Other antibiotics in the fluoroquinolone group include: Cipro, Cipro XR, Proquin XR, Factive, Avelox, Noroxin, and Floxin.

Additional side effects caused by Levaquin have been reported to be the following:

Ruptured Achilles Tendon, requiring surgery, and ruptures of the rotator cuff, hand, biceps, and thumb.

Levoquin (Lebofloxacin), a new generation ant-biotic used primarily for upper respiratory infections, is part of a group of drugs of the Fluoroqinolone family.

It is a successful antibiotic.

Unfortunately, Levoquin can often cause tendon ruptures and other tendon problems, leading to tendon rupture surgery in the Achilles Tendon, shoulders, hands, and other parts of the body.

The drug was black boxed by the FDA in July 2008, which is a Federal mandate that Ortho McNeil, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, must warn users in a Black Box warning that they should contact a doctor if any tendon problems occurs and that the medication can cause the risk of a tendon tear or tendon rupture.

The Levoquin lawyers of Nadrich & Cohen are interviewing and pursuing potential claims of individuals throughout the country who have experienced tendon problems, including tendon ruptures and tendon surgeries after and/or during Levoquin use. We are primarily reviewing tendon ruptures, tendonitis resulting in surgery, and tendon tear side effects.
