AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi Purpose Solution Recall

On May 25, 2007, Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. commonly know as AMO announced that it was recalling its Complete Moisture Plus Multi Purpose Solution from the marketplace.  The recall is the result of an outbreak of a rare but potentially blinding eye infection wherein the cornea, the eyes transparent outer covering, is at risk.  The lens cleaning solution causes a rare infection known as Acanthamoeba Keratitis which is caused by parasites.  There latest outbreak has involved at least 138 patients.

Epidemiologists from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have linked the Acanthamoeba Keratitis outbreak to AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi Purpose Solution manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics of Santa Ana California.  This solution is used to clean and store soft contact lenses.
