Permax RecallPermax side effect updateOn March 29, 2007, the FDA pulled Permax off the market. There are between 12,000 and 25,000 people currently using Permax. Recent Mayo clinic findings have linked Permax with heart damage. Patients who have used Permax have developed severe heart disease including valve regurgitation and heart enlargement causing Permax patients to need heart valve replacements. The symptoms of possible Permax related side effects are heart murmurs, chest pain, swelling of the feet and ankles and shortness of breath. Permax is a drug developed by Eli Lilly to treat Parkinson’s disease. More than 500,000 people have been prescribed Permax in the past 13 years. Permax victims have been developing severe unexplained valvular heart disease. Symptoms include fluid retention in the lungs, breathing difficulties, shortness of breath, and heart murmurs. Anyone with heart problems should not take Permax. Permax is used for Parkinson disease which is neurological disease progressive in nature in the region of the brain that controls movement. At least a million and a half people in the United States are believed to be affected by Parkinson’s disease.
