Zithromax

Zithromax is a popular antibiotic used most often to treat respiratory infections, skin infections and some sexually transmitted diseases. It is usually taken only once per day because of its potency.

The most serious types of side effects that have been attributed to Zithromax include liver damage resulting in death or liver transplant surgery. Signs of liver damage include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, dark urine and generalized skin discoloration.

Zithromax is not recommended for use in anyone with a prior liver dysfunction. The possibility of liver damage from Zithromax arises because Zithromax is primarily eliminated from the body by the liver.

Zithromax has been reported to cause liver damage including elevated liver enzymes, jaundice, liver failure leading to transplantation and death.

If you, or someone you know, has been injured by Zithromax please have them contact us immediately. You or your family member may be eligible to file a claim against the manufacturer.

Zithromax Overview

Zithromax, also known as Azithromycin, is an antibiotic indicated for the treatment of several types of infections caused by bacteria. Physicians prescribe the medication for skin infections and venereal disease as well as upper and lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, strep throat and tonsillitis.

Similar to erythromycin, the macrolide antibiotic interferes with bacterial reproduction. Zithromax comes as a capsule, tablet, or liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day for 2-5 days. The drug was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1991 and is made by Pfizer, Inc.

Side effects of Zithromax use include, but may not be limited to, nausea, loss of appetite, mild diarrhea, respiratory problems, yellowing of the skin or eyes and a skin rash.

Zithromax has been linked to toxic liver damage in patients. Because the liver breaks down the medication, the possibility of liver problems exists for users. The adverse reactions section on Zithromax's labeling was changed in 2000 to warn patients of the drug's link to abnormal liver function, including hepatitis, jaundice and liver failure, which can result in death.

See your doctor if you have questions about Zithromax or if you have experienced serious health problems after taking this medication. Please contact us immediately if you suffered injuries from Zithromax
