Chain-Reaction Accident in Woodland Kills Man, Injures Richard Root

Woodland, CA (September 27, 2018) – A man was killed in a four-vehicle crash in Woodland. The fatal accident happened on the afternoon of September 28 on Interstate 5.

A Ford Edge, Ford Fiesta and Cadillac sedan were stopped in the far-left lane on southbound I-5, near County Road 102.

A fourth vehicle – a Dodge Ram truck – was driving behind the cars when the driver failed to stop. This caused a chain-reaction crash, with the cars rear-ending each other.

The driver of the Ford Edge died in the crash. He was identified a 58-year-old man from Williams. The driver of the Fiesta was identified as Richard Root from Carmichael. He suffered moderate injuries.

The driver of the Cadillac, 58-year-old Elizabeth Karns of Lakehead, fled the accident scene but was later stopped by police. She suffered minor injuries and was arrested for DUI. The driver of the Dodge Ram was identified as 36-year-old Robert Snow from Olivehurst.

Hidden FDA Database Concealed Reports of Surgical Stapler Malfunctions

A hidden FDA database of medical device failures was shut down in June 2019. The database contains medical device reports submitted to the FDA via its Alternative Summary Reporting Program from 1999 to 2019. Reports which were sent to this database were not, until recently, made public. The Alternative Summary Reporting Program is a non-public database, unlike the FDA’s MAUDE database which publicly logs medical device failures or defects for public review.
