1 Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 20
Distracted Driving Causes Fatal Nevada City Accident
Nevada City, CA (July 3, 2018) – A head-on crash in Nevada City has left one dead. The fatal crash occurred on the evening of July 3 on Highway 20.
Grass Valley resident Rick Caffey, 50, was driving a Honda Civic east on Highway 20, near Chalk Bluff Road. At the same time, 71-year old Edward Mabe, from Grass Valley, was traveling west on Highway 20 in a GMC Sierra.
Caffey reached for an object in his car and became distracted. He allowed his vehicle to travel across the double yellow lines. He entered the westbound lane directly into the path of Mabe. The Honda and GMC collided head on.
The GMC continued on, overturning. The Honda coasted to a stop. The passenger of the GMC sustained fatal injuries.
