4 Dead In Street Racing Accident In Northridge
Four individuals in their 20s died after their BMW veered into the wrong side of traffic and slammed into a tree in Northridge Friday night. Street racing is believed to be a contributing factor.
The vehicle was eastbound on Lassen Street, approaching Balboa Avenue at a high rate of speed as it swerved into oncoming traffic and smashed into a tree and a wall. The car was estimated to be traveling at 100 mph at the time of impact.
The silver BMW sedan split in two and burst into flames as a result of the force of the high-speed impact that occurred around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Lassen Street.
Coroner’s officials identified the deceased as:
Martin Gomez, 20, of Granada Hills
Denney Lomeli, of North Hills
Amanda Alfar, 22, of Panorama City
Leena Ammari, of Reseda.
A second car, a sedan, may have been racing the BMW at the time of the accident. Police want to interview the motorist in the second vehicle and have released surveillance images of the second vehicle.
