4 Injured in Crash on Highway 33 Near Lokern Road
Unsafe Passing Leads to McKittrick Accident
McKittrick, CA (February 11, 2019) – Four people were injured when a car passed another and lost control in McKittrick. The accident occurred on the afternoon of February 11 on Highway 33.
Excessive speed and unsafe passing caused a crash on Highway 33, near Lokern Road. Daniel Sanchez Calletano, 20, of Maricopa was driving a Ford Escape in the southbound lanes when he went into the northbound lanes to pass. He had insufficient clearance and turned left to avoid a head-on accident. Instead, he hit a Honda Accord driven by Carlos Salazar Gonzalez, 27, of Santa Maria.
The Honda spun out of control and ended up in a ditch. Gonzalez was not injured in the crash. However, Calletano and a passenger, Naida Lopez Primo, 23 of Maricopa, both suffered major injuries and were airlifted to a local hospital.
Two others in the Ford – Taft residents Pedro Roque, 53, and Daniel Ventura, 25 –suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
