6 Teens Injured After Crashing Into Tree on Portola Drive
Police Pursuit Leads to Santa Cruz Accident
Santa Cruz, CA (August 28, 2019) – Six teens were injured when a 14-year-old driver crashed into a tree in Santa Cruz. The accident occurred on the morning of August 28 on Portola Drive.
California Highway Patrol officers tried to stop a GMC Yukon for an obstructed license plate violation in Capitola. The suspected 14-year-old driver fled the scene, leading officers on a short pursuit.
The driver lost control of the car, causing it to overturn. It then crashed into a tree on Portola Drive, near 41st Ave. There were six people inside the GMC. They ranged in age from 14 to 18 and all were from San Jose. All suffered serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals. One teen was ejected from the GMC. The driver was arrested.
