Ceres Rear-End Accident Injures 6 Children
Ceres, CA (June 10, 2019) – Nine people, including six children, were injured in a rear-end crash in Ceres. The accident occurred on the afternoon of June 10 on Highway 99.
A Chrysler minivan rear-ended a Chevrolet Tahoe in stop-and-go traffic on Highway 99 near Service Road. The Chrysler minivan, which can hold up to eight people, had nine people inside. Six of those were children, and three were not restrained in seat belts or car seats.
All nine occupants suffered injuries. Alexis Martinez, 12, who suffered a brain injury, was not wearing a seatbelt. Christopher Carmona, 5, suffered a head laceration. Both were airlifted to children’s hospitals.
Two girls, ages 2 and 10 months, were not in car seats. The baby suffered abrasions, while 2-year-old Julissa Martinez suffered unknown injuries. Jossimar Martinez and Maxamiliano Marez, both 8, were in seat belts and suffered only minor injuries.
The driver, Benigno Martinez Diaz, 32, suffered minor injuries. Aurelia Martinez, 30, also suffered minor injuries. Blanca Marez, 35, suffered a broken jaw and leg.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Georgia resident Joseph Volk, 61, was not injured in the crash.
