Algetta Strother Killed in Crash on Ninth Street
Mother, Son Were Street Racing in Fatal San Bernardino Accident
San Bernardino, CA (June 8, 2020) – A woman was killed and a man was arrested in a mother-son street race in San Bernardino. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of June 8 on Ninth Street.
Steven Strother, Jr. was driving a Buick Century and allegedly racing his mother, Algetta Strother, 54, who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe. They were traveling on Ninth Street, near Waterman Avenue, when they both tried to pass a Toyota Camry. The Buick collided with the Toyota, which then caused the Tahoe to lose control. The Tahoe rolled over, hit a tree and a light pole.
Strother was ejected from the Tahoe. She died at the accident scene. A passenger in the SUV, a 21-year-old woman was injured and taken to a local hospital. The occupants of the Toyota were not injured. Strother, Jr. was arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
