
CHP Officer Injured in Crash on 10 Freeway Near New Avenue
Officer Involved in Chain-Reaction Accident in San Gabriel
San Gabriel, CA (June 21, 2020) – A CHP officer was injured in a hit and run crash in San Gabriel. The accident occurred on the afternoon of June 21 on the 10 Freeway.
A 30-year-old CHP officer was standing on the shoulder of the westbound 10 Freeway, near New Avenue. The officer had pulled over a BMW and parked his Ford SUV behind the BMW on the shoulder. A Scion moved into the adjacent lane and cut in front of a Toyota RAV4.
The driver of the RAV4 tried to avoid a collision by veering to the right. They rear-ended the CHP officer’s SUV. The CHP vehicle then collided with the BMW. The officer was hit by one of the vehicles. The driver of the Scion fled the accident scene.
The officer suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. He is in serious but stable condition. The other drivers were not injured. Police are still looking for the hit and run vehicles, which is described as a Scion FR-S. There is no description of the driver.
