Man Suffers Burns After Falling Into Trench, Landing on Pipe

San Diego, CA (February 20, 2020) – A construction worker suffered serious injuries after falling into a trench while working at UC San Diego. The accident occurred on the afternoon of February 20 at Matthews Lane and Voigt Drive.

The worker – a man in his 20s – was working on the university campus when he fell 30 feet into a trench and landed on a steam pipe. Emergency crews rescued the man by using a pulley to retrieve him from the hole. He suffered burns and blunt-force injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
