300 Exposed, 3 Hospitalized at Los Angeles Meatpacking Plant

Los Angeles, CA (November 16, 2020) – Farmer John, a meatpacking plant in Los Angeles, has been fined $58,100 for COVID-19 safety violations. More than 300 workers were exposed to COVID-19, with three hospitalized.

Cal/OSHA uncovered the violations during an investigation between May and November. Some COVID-19 infections were traced back to as early as February.

Smithfield Foods of Virginia, the corporate owner, is contesting the fine, claiming that it has worked hard to ensure the safety of all employees.
