July 12, 2017: A 10-year-old boy died Wednesday after he was thrown from a minivan as it rolled over in Chiriaco Summit on Interstate 10. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A Tarzana man traveling eastbound on I-10 near Summit Road, when he lost control of a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and struck the center divider at approximately 12:30 am. Several lanes were blocked after the crash, but they were open by 4:30 a.m., according to the CHP.
The vehicle contained eight occupants; none of them were wearing seatbelts. Firefighters had to pull two people from the wreckage. Paramedics took a teenage vehicle occupant to Desert Regional Medical Center and the victim was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Three other vehicle occupants suffered major injuries. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out, according to the CHP, although the cause of the crash is under investigation.
