Business Owner Killed by Employee in Fatal Costa Mesa Shooting

Costa Mesa, CA (June 8, 2020) – An owner of an auto repair shop was shot and killed by an employee in Costa Mesa. The fatal shooting occurred on the afternoon of June 8 at Gary’s Automotive.

A customer of Gary’s Automotive, located on 1995 Harbor Boulevard, called police when she found man unresponsive and slumped over in his office. The man was identified as 60-year-old Huntington Beach resident Garbis Yaghlagian, the owner of the auto repair shop. 

Police officers discovered that the man had suffered a gunshot wound. An employee of the shop, 31-year-old Francisco Javier Castaneda, was seen leaving the shop after a loud bang was heard. Castaneda was found near Victoria Street and Harbor Boulevard. He was arrested on murder charges.
