
Jose Roberto Alvarez Died After Contracting COVID-19 From Mission Foods Corp.
40 People Have Tested Positive in Outbreak at Commerce Facility
Commerce, CA (July 20, 2020) – A worker at Mission Foods Corp. has died from COVID-19. The man died on July 20 after contracting the virus at work.
Jose Roberto Alvarez, 67, died from coronavirus after he started experienced symptoms during the week of June 28. Forty people tested positive at the Commerce facility. The supplier has since been ordered to close due to the outbreak.
Alvarez, an immigrant from El Salvador, was the head of maintenance at the company. Despite being high risk due to blood pressure and diabetes, he was considered an essential worker and the provider for his household, he continued to go to work.
During the week of June 28, Alvarez developed a fever and a cough. He, his wife and other daughter tested positive for COVID-19. They recovered, but he was hospitalized and put on a ventilator. He died on July 20.
