Chula Vista, CA (May 29, 2019) – A man robbed a bank in Chula Vista and took off, leading police on a chase and causing a crash. The accident occurred on the afternoon of May 29 at Rutgers Avenue and Otay Lakes Road.

The man entered the Cal Coast Credit Union on East H Street, approached a teller and demanded money. Bank employees tripped the silent alarm and gave the suspect the money. Customers called 911 and gave police a description of the suspect’s car.

Police located the suspect on the road and attempted to pull him over, but he refused to stop. Police chased him on East H Street until the driver ran a red light and collided with a vehicle near the intersection of Rutgers Avenue and Otay lakes Road.

A truck was found in the middle of the intersection, while a station wagon crashed into a pole.

The suspect suffered minor injuries and had to be removed from his vehicle by emergency crews. The other driver suffered moderate injuries. The suspect will be charged with bank robbery and eluding police.
