British Tourist Runs Stop Sign in Fatal Chowchilla Accident

Chowchilla, CA (August 19, 2019) – A British tourist ran a stop sign in Chowchilla, killing two people and injuring six others. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of August 19 at Road 22 and Avenue 24.

A Toyota RAV4 with four occupants from the United Kingdom was heading north on Road 22 when it failed to stop at the stop sign. The Toyota hit a Saturn Relay minivan driven by a 47-year-old man from Chowchilla. The minivan had four occupants, all from Chowchilla.

The Saturn knocked over a power pole. The Toyota ended up in an irrigation basin with water.

Two passengers in the Saturn – Martina Gudino Vargas, 50, and Gregoria Gudino Vargas, 45 – were killed in the crash. Two other occupants of the Saturn – the driver and Yesena Gudino, 18 – suffered moderate injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, Agnelo Dsouza, 55, and his wife, Cheryl Dsouza, 51, of the United Kingdom, suffered major injuries. Their sons Brandon, 26, and Nigel, 22, also suffered injuries.
