
Noel Bascon Killed in Crash at Junipero and Arlington Drives
Richard Lavelle Arrested for DUI in Fatal Costa Mesa Accident
Costa Mesa, CA (December 6, 2020) – A boy was killed in a bicycle crash in Costa Mesa. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of December 6 at Junipero and Arlington drives.
Noel Bascon, 12, of Costa Mesa, and his father were riding bicycles near the intersection. They had entered the crosswalk when a moving truck failed to stop at the stop sign and hit the boy.
Bascon was thrown several feet into the air. A witness performed CPR on the boy. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The driver — Richard Lavelle, 59, of Long Beach — was arrested for DUI, murder and a parole violation. The passenger, Lee Anna Diaz Murphy, 56, of Artesia, was arrested for possession of controlled substances.
