Cal Fire Captain Dies in Fatal Gustine Accident

Gustine, CA (October 2, 2019) – A Cal Fire captain was killed in a head-on crash in Gustine. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of October 2 on Highway 140.

Captain Paul Rotondaro, 36, was in a Ford pickup truck heading east on Highway 140 near Old Santa Fe Grade. A Dodge Ram heading west attempted to pass a car but crashed head-on into Rotondaro’s truck.

The Dodge rolled several times, killing the unidentified driver. The Ford went off the road and caught fire, killing Captain Rotondaro. He was with the Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced. Two occupants of the car suffered minor injuries.
