Pilot Killed in Helicopter Crash Near Wildfire

Victim Was Dropping Water on Hills Fire in Fatal Coalinga Accident

Coalinga, CA (August 19, 2020) – A pilot was killed in a crash in Coalinga. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of August 19 near the Hills Fire. 

The pilot of a firefighting helicopter was killed while working on a water dropping mission on the Hills Fire. The pilot was the only occupant in the helicopter. The victim died in the crash.

It is believed that the pilot was under contract by Cal Fire. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident.
