Ramiro Benitez Killed in Crash on Pacific Coast Highway

Police Chase Ends in Fatal Newport Beach Accident

Newport Beach, CA (September 20, 2020) – A man was killed after a police chase in Newport Beach. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of September 20 on the Pacific Coast Highway.

The incident started when a patrol officer tried to make a traffic stop on a stolen black Honda Accord near Goldenwest and Ellis in Huntington Beach. The driver failed to yield and led the police on a pursuit. However, the pursuit was later canceled due to high speeds and reckless driving.

The suspect vehicle ended up losing control and crashing on the Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. The passenger, identified as Ramiro Benitez, 42, of Compton, died at the accident scene. The driver suffered serious injuries and was later arrested.
