Robert Sawaya Killed in Crash on Interstate 10 Near Monroe Street

Indio, CA (September 7, 2019) – A man was killed in a crash in Indio. The fatal accident occurred on the afternoon of September 7 on Interstate 10.

A Ford Focus and a Buick SUV collided on Interstate 10, near Monroe Street. Robert Sawaya, 61, was in the Buick traveling east on Interstate 10 when he collided with the Ford Focus. Two women, ages 20 and 23, were inside the Ford.

The Buick overturned onto the shoulder. Sawaya was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. Nobody inside the Ford was injured.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the friends and loved ones of Robert Sawaya.

The disease is also known as “cobalt lung.” The National Institutes of Health describes the disease as a “rare but serious disease of the lungs associated with inhalational exposure to tungsten or cobalt dust.”
