Sergio Cruz Killed While Working for Clark Construction


Rebar Collapses in Fatal UC San Diego Accident

La Jolla, CA (July 25, 2019) – A construction worker was killed in an accident on the UC San Diego campus. The fatal accident occurred on July 25. 

A 35-foot piece of rebar collapsed while employees from Clark Construction were working on a high-rise building on the campus. One worker was hit in the head and four others were injured. 

Several workers were taken to a local hospital. One of them – 32-year-old Sergio Cruz – later died. Two others suffered serious injuries. All five victims were employees of Clark Construction.

Clark Construction has started a full investigation and is cooperating with Cal OSHA and other authorities.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the friends and loved ones of Sergio Cruz.
