
Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Gibson Killed in Shootout
Another Deputy Injured, Suspect and K-9 Dog Also Killed in Fatal Sacramento Incident
Sacramento, CA (January 18, 2021) – A sheriff’s deputy was killed and another deputy was injured in a shootout in Sacramento. The fatal incident occurred on the evening of January 18 near a racetrack at the Cal Expo.
The shooting followed an attempted traffic stop, with the driver crashing on the Cal Expo grounds. A K-9 was deployed to get the suspect out of the vehicle, but the suspect immediately shot and killed the K-9 dog. He then fired at officers.
Deputy Adam Gibson was killed in the gunfire. Another deputy was injured and is in stable condition. The suspect, Robert Stephen Calderon, was also killed in the gunfire. He had a history of criminal activity and mental illness.
Gibson was a six-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. He leaves behind a wife and 9-month-old child.
