Authorities are investigating whether a suspected drunk driver is liable for a hit and run crash that killed a Northern California woman’s two miniature horses.

The Oakland resident and suspected drunk driver hit both horses in a Penngrove accident on April 15, 2017. Both horses had to be euthanized.

An officer detained the suspect driver later that day after observing suspect’s vehicle swerving on a Petaluma roadway.

Authorities report that car parts matching the suspect’s vehicle were discovered at the crash site and the vehicle also had front end damage. Tufts of animal fur were also present on the front of the suspect’s Honda CRV.r.
