Palm Desert, CA (September 9, 2019) – A woman was killed after she was hit by a truck in Palm Desert. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of September 9 at Highway 74 and Hay Stack Road.

Thereseem Smith, 65, of Palm Desert was walking near the intersection when she was hit by a pickup truck. Smith died at the accident scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 61-year-old Palm Desert man, was unconscious inside the truck. He was taken to a local hospital.

E-Cigarette Use Linked To ‘Cobalt Lung’

A case study published in the European Respiratory Journal in December 2019 described a 49-year-old in California who developed hard-metal pneumoconiosis after using e-cigarettes for only six months. The disease is also known as “cobalt lung.” The National Institutes of Health describes the disease as a “rare but serious disease of the lungs associated with inhalational exposure to tungsten or cobalt dust.”
