Truck Crashes into Friant Kern Canal, Kills 1
Porterville, CA (May 9, 2018) –An accident on the morning of May 9 has killed a Delano woman. The fatal crash happened on at the Friant Kern Canal in Porterville.
The woman was a passenger in a Chevy Silverado driven by 31-year-old Manuel Aguirre of Earlimart. He was driving the truck on Avenue 24 when he crossed over into the adjacent lane. He crashed into a bridge abutment over the Friant Kern Canal.
The truck crashed into the canal and landed into the water. Aguirre was able to to swim to shore, but the female passenger died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
Aguirre suffered moderate injuries. He was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence.
