Fatality Occurs on Tracks Near Sunnyvale Station

Sunnyvale, CA (December 2, 2019) – A woman on train tracks was hit and killed by a train in Sunnyvale. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of December 2 on Evelyn Avenue.

Northbound Caltrain No. 305 was traveling from San Jose to San Francisco when it hit a woman who was on the tracks for unknown reasons. The crash happened north of the Sunnyvale station. The woman died from her injuries. There were 170 passengers aboard the train, but none were injured. 

It is unknown whether the death was intentional or accidental. Trains in both directions were delayed for 90 minutes.

A case study published in the European Respiratory Journal in December 2019 described a 49-year-old in California who developed hard-metal pneumoconiosis after using e-cigarettes for only six months. The disease is also known as “cobalt lung.” The National Institutes of Health describes the disease as a “rare but serious disease of the lungs associated with inhalational exposure to tungsten or cobalt dust.”
