Big Rig Plummets From Overpas
Northbound 5 Freeway was closed for nearly seven hours on January 9 after a big rig plunged from an overpass in the Pacoima area of Los Angeles. The truck fell from the westbound 118 Freeway interchange just before 10 a.m.
The truck came to rest across the northbound 5 Freeway lanes. The driver was conscious when authorities responded.
The accident caused some oil to spill and the impact caused part of the concrete barrier on the overpass was knocked away by the impact to get knocked away. This scattered a significant amount of debris across the roadway.
Many commuters in the area were trapped on the freeway for an hour before traffic could be diverted. It is unknown what caused the accident.
