Boy Killed, 3 Injured in Crash on Highway 118


Somis Accident Involving Tanker Truck Kills 9-Year-Old

Somis, CA (August 10, 2018) – A 9-year-old boy died and three others were injured in an accident in Somis. The fatal crash happened on the morning of August 10 on Highway 118.

The accident occurred when a tanker truck and a Chevrolet Impala collided on westbound Highway 118 at Balcom Canyon Road. The truck pulling two tank trailers of gasoline when it crashed into the left side of the Impala. Both vehicles spun out. The tanker overturned and spilled more than 1,000 gallons of gasoline.

Three people – a 45-year-old woman from Somis, her 9-year-old son and her 7-year-old daughter – were in the Impala at the time of the accident. All three suffered serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. The girl suffered life-threatening injuries to the head and lower extremities. The mother suffered major injuries to her left torso. 

The driver of the tanker, a 65-year-old man from Los Angeles, was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries to his upper torso. The accident closed Highway 118 in both directions from Moorpark to Somis well into the night.
