Car Accident Injures Police Officer, Prisoner
An on-duty police officer transporting a prisoner crashed his patrol vehicle after suffering a medical event while behind the wheel. He skidded across four lanes of Interstate 15 before hitting an embankment.
The crash occurred on the afternoon of February 12 in the City Heights area of San Diego. The accident happened in the southbound lanes near University Avenue.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The police officer and prisoner suffered injuries and were both taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, but are expected to recover.
The University Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-15 was closed for nearly two hours following the crash.
