Indio Crash Kills Elena Ramirez

Indio, CA (June 16, 2018) –A pedestrian has died in a crash in Indio. The fatal accident happened on the evening of June 16 at Monroe Street and Valencia Avenue.

The pedestrian died after being hit by a BMW driven by a Palm Springs man who fled the accident scene. Colin Havenswas arrested two miles away from the crash scene, in the area of Highway 111 and Golf Center Parkway. The 30-year-old man was arrested three hours after the crash.

The crash happened at Monroe Street and Valencia Avenue. Havens was traveling west on Valencia in a BMW when he turned onto Monroe and hit the woman. The woman was identified as 65-year-oldElena Ramirez from Indio. She died at the accident scene.

Havens was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and hit and run.
