Freak Crash Kills Man, Leaves 2 Others Hurt on 118 Freeway in Chatsworth

A man was killed Tuesday when he got out of his disabled pickup truck, which was struck by a car, and he was then hit by a bike on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway at the Chatsworth area, police said. The crash was reported about 5:50 a.m. at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man, who was in his 40s, died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported. His name was withheld, pending family notification.
According to the investigation, a pickup truck became disabled on the carpool lane of the freeway and the motorist got outside, the CHP reported. That’s when the pickup truck was struck by a car, along with the effect pushed the truck to the path of an eastbound motorcycle, which struck him and into the man, who was flung over the middle divider, the CHP reported.

Also the motorcyclist along with the car driver were treated for injuries which were not believed life-threatening. While crews worked to clean the scene, three lanes were closed in each direction on the 118 Freeway.
