Jessie Bingaman, 5 Dogs Killed in Crash at Temple Avenue and 3rd Street
Police Chase Leads to Fatal Long Beach Accident
Long Beach, CA (May 7, 2019) – A woman and five dogs were killed after a police chase led to a crash in Long Beach. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of May 7 at Temple Avenue and 3rd Street.
The police pursuit began near Broadway and Alamitos Avenue. A police officer spotted a van and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away. Police chased the van through a residential neighborhood on 3rd Street. The van ran a stop sign and hit a vehicle at Temple Avenue.
Inside the vehicle was a woman, Jessie Bingaman, who ran a dog walking service called The Pawtenders. She was trapped inside her vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died. Six dogs were also inside. Four died at the accident scene. Another died at a nearby veterinary hospital.
The pursuit driver, identified as 43-year-old Javier Oliverez of Los Angeles, was hospitalized. He is an ex-con with an outstanding warrant for robbery.
After treatment, he was arrested for multiple criminal charges, including vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI and evading a police officer. He is currently in jail without bail.
