Popular Crossing Guard Leonard Ortiz Dies in Redlands Accident

Redlands, CA (October 16, 2018) – A popular crossing guard was killed in a hit and run accident in Redlands. The fatal crash happened on the morning of October 16 at Orange Street and Colton Avenue.

The 48-year-old man, identified as Leonard Ortiz, was killed while riding a moped at the intersection, near the 10 Freeway. The driver of the vehicle sped off and went onto the freeway.

Ortiz was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. He worked as a crossing guard near Lugonia Elementary and was featured in the local newspaper. A description of the driver or vehicle is unknown.
