Lon and Joan Rice Killed in Accident on Highway 49
Oakhurst Crash Claims Lives of Married Couple Lon and Joan Rice
Oakhurst, CA (July 30, 2018) – A husband and wife were killed in a head-on collision in Oakhurst. The fatal crash happened on the afternoon of July 30 on Highway 49.
A U.S. Forest Service vehicle and Chevrolet pickup truck collided on Highway 49 near Griffin Drive. Judy Reynolds, 69, was driving the Forest Service vehicle – a Jeep Cherokee – on Highway 49 when she drifted into the adjacent lane.
The Jeep hit a Chevrolet pickup truck head on. Lon Rice, 74, and Joan Rice, 87, both from Mariposa, were occupants of the pickup.
Lon Rice died at the accident scene. Joan Rice was airlifted a local hospital, where she later died.
Reynolds and a colleague, Linda Archebeque, 68, suffered moderate injuries. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
