Jesaun Benson-Garrett Killed in Oakland Pedestrian Accident
Oakland, CA (August 12, 2018) – A man was arrested after hitting a pedestrian in Oakland while under the influence of alcohol. The fatal accident happened on the morning of August 12 on Interstate 880.
The DUI driver, identified as Berkeley resident Maury Butler, 56, was arrested on suspicion of murder after striking and killing a pedestrian who exited a vehicle after a crash on northbound Interstate 880, near 66th Avenue.
Butler, who was driving a Lexus sedan, was pulled over after hitting the victim, identified as 19-year-old Jesaun Benson-Garrett from Antioch. Butler was found to be driving under the influence. He was found to be driving with a suspended license. This is the driver’s fourth DUI and he now faces enhanced charges.
