Miguel Gutierrez Killed in Crash on 91 Freeway Near Bloomfield Avenue

Victim Killed While Trying to Help Driver in Fatal Hit and Run Accident

Cerritos, CA (September 29, 2019) – A man was killed while trying to help someone on the side of the road in Cerritos. The fatal accident occurred just after midnight on September 29 on the 91 Freeway.

Miguel Gutierrez, 34, of Norwalk, was on his way home from Disneyland when he stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound 91 Freeway, near Bloomfield Avenue, to assist a 16-year-old boy who had run out of gas. A truck struck his car, then hit Gutierrez and dragged him on the freeway. The truck never stopped.

Gutierrez died at the accident scene. The suspected hit and run vehicle has not yet been found. It is described as a white box or work-type truck with wooden rails along the bed. 

Gutierrez’ wife, Lorraine Barajas, and other relatives witnessed the accident. Barajas had taken Gutierrez to Disneyland to celebrate finishing his automotive courses at Cerritos College.
