Off-Duty LAPD Officer Killed in Crash While Driving Motorcycle. A Los Angeles Police Department officer, John Gasparyan, was killed in an accident in Porter Ranch after a vehicle made a U-turn and crashed into his motorcycle.
Gasparyan was taken to Providence Holy Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Gasparyan, 34, worked for the Valley Traffic Division of the LAPD for almost seven years and was a 10-year veteran of the LAPD. Gasparyan was a Los Angeles native and had a 6-year-old daughter.
The crash was reported about 6:50 p.m. in the 10800 block of Tampa Avenue, near Chatsworth Street. The crash prompted a partial closure of several neighboring streets. It is unclear if the vehicle operator made an illegal or permissible U-turn. The accident remains under investigation.
