Parents Killed, 2 Teens Airlifted After I-15 Freeway Crash
Two teens were injured in a car accident that claimed both parents on Monday, July 17, 2017.The accident occurred on the I-15 Northbound near Minneola Road in Yermo, CA.
When CHP and medical personnel arrived on scene they located a gold Lexus SUV on its side in the desert and a silver Audi in the center median.
Both 48-years-old and from La Palma, California, the SUV’s male driver and his wife died of their injuries. The husband died at the scene and his wife was taken to Barstow Community Hospital where she later died.
Their children, a male, and a female were both transported to Barstow Community Hospital and then airlifted to area trauma centers.
The female child sustained head injuries, while the male child suffered two broken legs.
According to Sgt. Thomas Skinner of the California Highway Patrol, the Audi was traveling in the #1 lane and made a lane change into the #2 lane which was occupied by the SUV.
The front of the Audi struck the left rear of the Lexus SUV causing it to lose control, overturn several times and come to rest in the desert. The Audi struck the center median and came to rest.
The 31-year-old female driver of the Audi and her two-year-old daughter were not injured in the crash.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor.
The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Station.
