Benzene Found in Test Wells Near Parachute Creek, CO
For Immediate Release:
Investigators have found large traces of benzene in testing wells just a few feet from Parachute Creek Colorado, according to an April 3rd Denver Post report. Investigators have reportedly been surveying the site for nearly a month, in order to examine the extent of a suspected leak in natural-gas pipelines, tanks, and other local facilities. Authorities are concerned about benzene may be impacting the local water supply.
According to a spokesman for the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC), sampling results demonstrated that benzene in the water measures between 1,900 parts per billion and 4,100 parts per billion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has pointed out that the maximum safe level of benzene is only 5 parts per billion.
Organizations like the CDC and The American Cancer Society have warned that benzene exposure can cause a variety of cancers and terminal blood disorders, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and other forms of leukemia. Investigators are reportedly still examining the test wells to determine a definitive cause for the benzene leak.
San Diego personal injury lawyer Jeff Nadrich has represented individuals who have contracted cancer after prolonged benzene exposure, and he recently weighed in on the Parachute Creek findings. According to Nadrich, “Benzene exposure threatens lives, and if an investigation determines that the local gas plant is to blame for the elevated benzene levels, local residents may be entitled to compensation.“
Nadrich urges anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer or a blood disorder to contact a qualified personal injury lawyer if they believe that benzene exposure may have been a factor.
