Three-Year-Old Attacked by Dog
Dog bites can be devastating and this is especially true when they involve young children. As mentioned in the previous blog article on dog bites, dog bites remain to be a big problem and can even be seen as a growing problem.
In an article from Newstelegram.com, a horrible dog attack is described involving a pit bull and a three-year-old child.
The 85 pound pit bull attacked the young child in his stroller inside an apartment. The dog bit the child in the face leaving a deep gash in the boy’s forehead. The boy will require surgery on the bite.
Surgery for wounds inflicted by dog bites can be complicated. The enzymes in a dog’s saliva can react very badly with wounds. The risk of infection can often time be too great to risk operating.
“It Was Just An Accident!”
The reporter who released the previously mentioned article attempted to contact those living at the apartment where the dog bite happened. A woman answered the door who did not wish to comment and replied, “It was an accident. That’s all.”
The circumstances surrounding this accident are suspect. Sgt. Kerry F. Hazelhurst, a spokesperson for the local police, commented that there were no records of the pit bull having any of the required shots from the vet.
The dog was obviously taken from the apartment by animal control. After further investigation, it was found that the apartment did not even have the required license for the dog either.
We hope for a safe and fast recovery for the young child. Another hope is that people will learn to take responsibility for their dogs. Proper training and continual attention can tremendously improve a dog’s behavior, preventing them from these kinds of behaviors.
