Tragic Swimming Pool Accident Claims Life of 2-Yr-Old
Swimming pools can be very dangerous. This danger can be attributed to several things. Sometimes the danger stems from faulty equipment. Other times, it can stem from the environment itself. Often, with children, it can be the difficulty of vigilant supervision.
AccessNorthga.com has recently put forth an article describing a fatal swimming pool accident that took the life of a 2-Year old in Pendergrass.
Swimming Pool Accident
The two-year old, Adrian Tony Murphy, was being watched by a babysitter when the accident took place. The circumstances of how the accident occurred were not entirely clear from the article. It seems the young boy wandered close to the swimming pool and fell in.
He was found alive in the pool but in severe condition. Emergency rescue workers then rushed him to the hospital. The next day, the child died from complications relating to the near drowning accident.
We give our condolences to the Murphy family for their tragic loss.
Safety & Swimming Pools
After hearing about several tragic and fatal accidents such as this one, it can’t help but be wondered what measures can be taken to prevent such tragedies.
Having safety gates around pools is a great safety measure to take, especially with young one likely to wander around pool areas. Another good practice is to cover pools in the off season to prevent unexpected accident.
Even given most safety measures, constant vigilance of children around swimming pools is the best way to prevent accidents like this one from happening. Pools can be recreational and the source of much family fun but the fact remains that there are clear and present dangers associated with them.
This does not mean that since there is danger associated with it that all pools should be destroyed. Rather, it means that caution should always be exercised around such potential dangers.
