Wrong-Way Motorist Dies In Car Crash on Highway 101 in San Jose

The CHP was first notified of a crash involving a wrong-way motorist on southbound Highway 101 near Metcalf Road in San Jose, CA at approximately 5:45 a.m.

Firefighters were the first to respond to the scene.

A wrong-way motorist was involved in two collisions early Sunday morning on Highway 101 in South San Jose. That motorist died after his car burst into flames following the second crash.

A white Nissan Altima was traveling in the wrong direction on southbound 101 when a Honda Accord hit the Altima

After the initial crash, the female driver of the Accord was assisted from her car by another motorist who witnessed the collision and stopped to help.

About five minutes after the first car accident, a Toyota Corolla traveling on Highway 101 crashed into the Nissan.

The CHP is still working to determine the name, age, and sex of the driver who died.

Southbound lanes on the 101 freeway were closed for several hours, which caused a significant backup for motorists on the final day of the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

The crash remains under investigation.
