Side by side recreational off highway vehicles (ROVs), are different from all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Unlike ATVs, ROVs are equipped with a steering wheel, bench or bucket seats, seatbelts, foot controls and a roll cage.

They are similar to ATVs in their ability to reach speeds greater than 30 mph. Together withATVs, ROVs are associated with a number of fatalities and extremely serious injuries every year.

Yamaha Rhino Owners Receive Free Repairs

On March 21,2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), together with Yamaha Motor Corp. U.S.A., of Cypress, Calif., announced a free repair program to address specific safety issues with all Yamaha Rhino 450, 660, and 700 model off highway recreational vehicles.

This action was undertaken in order to stem the number of accidents involving injuries and deaths aboard ROVs now being reported to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

At Nadrich & Cohen we have qualified ROV specialists experienced in defending the rights of our ROV accident clients. If you or a loved one has been involved in a Yamaha Rhino accident please contact an experienced Yamaha Rhino accident lawyer now at 1.800.718.4658.

Yamaha’s free repair includes installing a spacer on the rear wheels as well as removing the rear anti-sway bar to help reduce the chance of rollover and improve vehicle handling. The free repair includes installing half doors and additional passenger handholds where these features have not been previously installed to help keep occupant’s arms and legs inside the vehicle during a rollover and to help reduce injuries.

Owners Asked To Stop Using ROVs Till Repaired

Owners of the affected Rhinos are being asked to stop using their ROVs right now and call their dealer to schedule an appointment to have the free repairs made once they are available and to take advantage of a free helmet offer.

At Nadrich & Cohen, our personal injury lawyers are ready to answer all your questions about the Yamaha Rhino and how you can be compensated for injuries suffered in a rollover or crash, call now at 1.800.718.4658.

Makers of recreational off road vehicles are making a bid to beef up safety but it won’t stop the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission from pursuing the plan that was proposed nine months ago to write rules, Chairman Inez Tenenbaum said.“It concerned me then, and it concerns me now, that there were no standards for ROVs,” Tenenbaum, a Democrat, said yesterday.

At the meeting with  representatives of Yamaha Motor Co., Polaris Industries Inc., Arctic Cat Inc. and Bombardier Recreational Products Inc, CPSC Commissioner Robert Adler, who took part in the meeting said, “We have to be convinced that everybody, including ourselves, has pushed safety to the absolute maximum it can be pushed to so we can all sleep at night.”

“News accounts and investigations of rollovers and incidents have not stopped.” The U.S. has reported at least 268 deaths and injuries since 2003. Even though ROVs have a roll cage and seat belts, CPSC urges all riders and passengers to remain vigilant about safety before hitting the trails and while off-roading.
