Young Welder Survives Burn Injuries
Jason Patterson, the young man from Wewahitchka, Fla. went to work as he always did, at the Allanton Road Shipyard. The day was like any other workday nothing out of the ordinary for the young welder, in a story from wmbb.com here is what happened. While working inside a tank of one of the ships under construction at the shipyard, he suddenly became engulfed in flames.
There were reports of an explosion, it took only a moment, but it has changed this young man’s life forever. In an instant, his legs were burned to the bone from the intense heat. “I still have nightmares, where I break out in cold sweats, where I’m still in the hole burning, watching the flesh fall off my legs,” said Patterson.
“All I know is, my life changed that day. Burn Accident Caused By Leaking Torch
Company officials aren’t completely sure what happened, but it appears the explosion was caused by a leaking propane torch and ignited the gas that had accumulated within the enclosed area. That was a year ago, Jason Patterson survived the burn accident and he’s still recovering from his burn injuries. “I can’t explain some things.
I don’t know how to explain, all I know is, I thank god I’m alive. That’s the best way I can put it.” Jason really loved his job, and he’s having a hard time adjusting to unemployment. He’s always been employed and truly enjoys building ships. “I’m used to working, I love working, it’s a new experience watching them ships come alive,” said Patterson.
Now Jason is focused on his kids Troy and Kendall, and with the help of his wife, Amy, who Jason credits with helping to put the pieces back together. “If it wasn’t for all our family and friends, we would not have made it. We would not have made it this far and all the prayers that went up and all the churches and everybody we really appreciate it,” said Amy.

“I want to be able to provide for them, that’s my goal,” said Jason. “Just walking down the beach with him in pair of shorts and the kids playing, that would be nice, ” said Amy.
